Where to Stay in Las Vegas for New Years—The Party Edition
There is never a time when Las Vegas is empty. Millions of visitors come to the desert each year to the City of Sin to simultaneously let loose, relax, and party. This mentality circulates year-round, but when there is a holiday to celebrate, Vegas does it like no other city can.
If every other New Years Eve has seemed redundant for you, Las Vegas will promise not to disappoint, consistently living up to its reputation. If you are planning on spending the most celebrated party in the world here, and you need a place to stay, the best advice you can get is to BOOK EARLY. This truly cannot be stressed enough, as although many hotels offer packages for travelers during this time of the year, space is very limited. The end of the year increases the number of tourists and the prices of rooms mirror this; rates are jacked up, many hotels requiring 3 night minimums. For a cheaper way to be in Vegas without spending your rent, you can stay off the strip, but if partying hassle-free is your intention, you will be far from the action.
If you book early enough, rates are still doable on the Strip. A couple months in advance, you can still get a reservation at The Stratosphere with the average nightly cost of $157, as of October. It is a way down from the big clubs, but you will still be closer to go to the parties, especially since the street of the Strip is closed after 6, allowing only pedestrians. So you will be walking, or going around it to get to the other side. The Tropicana Hotel is located on the other side from The Stratosphere, near the Luxor, MGM, the Excalibur, and New York, New York. It is a short walk to the center, and you will be close to view the fireworks at midnight. With the early rate of $213 a night, it’s definitely worth booking ASAP.
For those with a slightly larger budget, the options are certainly wider and more accommodating. On New Years Eve, there is more action towards the middle of the Strip, and with the heavy congestion gravitating toward it, the shorter your walk, the better off you are. At midnight, it seems as if every person in Vegas goes in the street to watch the fireworks, where you don’t even need to be in a club if you don’t want to; remember, you can drink in the streets. On the cheaper side of the moderate rates, the Monte Carlo, for only $274 average price per night is a good option. If you would like to party within your hotel, albeit off the Strip, try the Hard Rock Hotel, for $314 average cost per night. There is always a party at Body English, the in-house club. Last year an amazing performance by Camp Freddy included artists such as Scott Weiland, Billy Morrison, Chris Chaney, Matt Sorum, Donovan Leitch, Jerry Canterll and Chester Bennington. If you are interested in a more elegant environment, but still able to see the fireworks from your own room (not like you’d be in it) check out the Paris. Located closer to the center, adjacent from the Bellagio, the $327 average nightly price for the Paris is a steal for a hotel and holiday that is anything but average.
Since Vegas is synonymous with opulence and indulgence, it only seems right that if you have the money, you should do your New Years as high class as possible. To stay toward the southern part of Downtown Vegas, the Signature Towers at the MGM Grand are adjacent to the main building, giving you access to the hotel, but with privacy and VIP amenities such as 24 hour concierge, valet parking only, a different and state of the art fitness center and spa, plus much more depending on the room or package you purchase. The cost of a guest room at the Signature Towers is $456 averaged per night, and is well worth it. There are pricier options, but the suites are selective, limiting your time to book them.
The newest luxury addition to Vegas is hotelier Steve Wynn’s already famous Wynn Las Vegas. As of October, every suite in the Towers for the week of New Years Eve was already sold out, with the other rooms going at lightning speed, which is truly amazing, considering there are over 2,000 to choose from. The standard Royalty room begins at an average cost of $599; Resort rooms start at $639. This amazing hotel boasts private lagoons and waterfalls, exclusive shopping, a championship 18-hole golf course; a deluxe, spa and salon; a Ferrari and Maserati dealership, and 24 hour concierge. There are also options inside the Wynn to celebrate New Years so you don’t even have to venture far from your glamorous room; fine dining options include Le Cirque, Circo, Prime Steakhouse, Picasso, Michael Mina's seafood restaurant, Jasmine, and Shintaro. To ring the New Year dancing, Tryst is one of the most aesthetically pleasing nightclubs, with a 90 foot waterfall as the backdrop to elegant white couches in the lounge and a open-air dance floor.
For the ultimate New Years Eve that exudes style, the Bellagio offers world-class service and accommodations for those who want nothing but the best. Early rates for customary rooms start at $649 a night on average, but have been increasing almost daily. This hotel, like the Wynn, has more than gracious services, including SIX pools, unsurpassed shopping, an awe-inspiring garden known as the Bellagio Conservatory, a famous fountain show in front, and the Cirque du Soleil Show, “O,” featuring swimmers, acrobats, and other performers. If nightlife is what you’re looking for on December 31st, or any time during your stay, head to Caramel, the sleek and sophisticated bar that reflects the Bellagio itself. With one of the most innovative drink menus around, be sure to try the Oreo shake martini made with Baileys, Dutch chocolate vodka, Godiva chocolate and a splash of cream with crushed Oreos, even served with a chocolate chip cookie! To welcome the incoming year getting your groove on within the Bellagio, try The Bank, the former home to Light. Opening this December, it is so elite you probably won’t be there unless you’ve reserved a table and bottles well in advance. The dance floor is where you’ll want to be though, in this sexy and exhilarating hot spot.
For those on all different budgets who will let the parties dictate where they’ll be staying, there are more than enough options open to you. Last year, Britney Spears hosted the party at Pure in Caesars Palace. This is one of the hottest tickets in town, and rooms at the Hotel go just as fast. With a starting rate of $480 a night, the convenience of celebrating and sleeping within floors of each other is a realistic choice if you make plans early. There are guaranteed to be celebrity sightings at Pure and Caesars, where the rooms are just as celeb-worthy, bringing the exquisite setting of Rome to the desert, with the fine touches of a four-star hotel.
Treasure Island (or TI as it’s now known as,) is often thought of as a place only for children of families. While it is kid-friendly, this entertaining hotel is becoming more of an adult hang out. The nightclub Tangerine located inside is a diverse mix of entertainment, keeping the entry exclusive and sultry. Only holding 500 people, the demand for entry will definitely exceed it, so get tickets early. This is a popular spot for guests like Lindsay Lohan, Michelle Rodriguez, and Tiger Woods, and on New Years, you never know who will show up. TI has rooms starting at $346, which is average for this time of year, and the amusements are not exclusive to Tangerine. There is a show called Sirens, running four times a day for free, and the Cirque du Soleil Show, Mystere also in Treasure Island.
The ultimate place, however, for press, celebrities, and features in the glossy magazines is The Palms. The former home of the “Real World: Vegas” and the ultra private Playboy Club, there are more than enough things for you and your crew to do on New Years. The Palm caters to all different travelers and partiers alike; but the general consensus is to let the young, hip, and trendy party as long and as hard as they want. With the exception of Mr. Hugh Hefner, of course, and his Club. Also home to the incomparable GhostBar , with it’s unparalleled view of Vegas, new club Moon atop the Playboy Club, and mega dance club Rain, there is something for everyone. With all this space to ring in 2008, though, it is arguably the #1 requested place in Vegas for twenty-somethings during the holidays. With a more than reasonable price tag of $265 average nightly rooms, they are taken without hesitation.
Another club that has seen its share of celebrity New Years Eve parties is Jet at the Mirage Hotel. Located in the center of the Strip, the Mirage is perfect for so many reasons. This four star hotel has incredible accommodations, amenities, and extras, such as the vully-functional manmade volcano and Siegfried and Roy show with the famous White Tigers. The average nightly rate as of October for New Years is $323, which is more than reasonable considering last year's party at Jet was DJ'd by Kid Rock and was filled beyond capacity with partyers all night well into the next year.
While Kid Rock was partying hard at Jet, his ex-wife Pamela Anderson was hosting the party at Tao, the restaurant and nightclub inside The Venetian Hotel, which celebrates New Years catering to the famous and sexy. Known year-round as a hotspot, Tao serves world renowned Asian cuisine with intense energy. The Venetian is an upscale hotel which is no stranger to celebrity guests; Britney Spears and Kevin Federline have stayed her many times, as well as visitors Tom Brady and Tara Reid. With last year’s guest including Jamie Foxx and Usher, there is no doubt that this one will not disappoint. This hotel is often booked well in advance, so be sure to check availability ASAP for New Years. There are suites available out of the 3,000 guest rooms.
As a city no stranger to tourists both internationally and domestically, Vegas is always busy. During New Years Eve, there is no question that these visitors act quickly, often leaving you to think of different plans. Regardless of your preferences or desired way to party, there is something and some place for everyone. Las Vegas is definitely the place to be if a party is what you’re looking for this New Years Eve.
